Services: How We Can Help

Speech Sound Disorders

Natural Language Acquisition
and Gestalt Language Processing

Language & Academic Delays
Is your child hard to understand—even by family members? If your child is having trouble forming sounds in a way that’s expected for their age, it can make their speech difficult to understand. This might look like leaving out sounds, swapping one sound for another, or adding extra sounds in words or syllables.
Does your child seem to be learning language in chunks or whole phrases instead of individual words, repeating sentences or songs they’ve heard from media or people around them? Do you think they show signs of gestalt language processing or have an Autism diagnosis?
Does your child have difficulty telling stories, expressing ideas clearly, or transferring their speaking skills to writing? Maybe their vocabulary is limited, their sentences are jumbled or hard to follow, or their stories lack detail and don’t follow a logical order.
Speech sound disorders are when a child has trouble making certain sounds correctly, making it hard for people to understand them. Speech therapy can help by identifying the specific patterns your child is using and teaching them how to produce sounds more clearly, so they can communicate with confidence and be understood by others.
At Chatter & Grow, we use evidence-based methods that help children make meaningful progress in their speech. We partner with parents to focus on words that matter most—like names of family, pets, or favorite activities—and share simple tools to support practice at home.
We also implement strategies to teach and improve phonological awareness (building blocks to reading) to support children’s development of essential literacy skills and address potential reading difficulties that commonly accompany speech sound disorders.
Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) therapy helps children who learn language by repeating whole phrases, called "gestalts,” a natural development common in Autistic children. NLA therapy guides them from repeating big chunks to helping them learn to talk more clearly and independently.
At Chatter & Grow our GLP-trained clinician will help you understand your child’s language development and offer support that is child-led and family-focused.
We believe connection is essential, and we take the time to build trust so your child sees us as a supportive communication partner. We help you understand the stages of natural language development and how to confidently support your child’s growth at home. Using child-led, interest-based play, we guide your child’s language development in the way it’s learned best—naturally and playfully.
Narrative language skills help kids connect with peers, understand what they’re learning, and fully take part in classroom activities.
At Chatter & Grow, we provide engaging sessions that empower preschool and school-age children to express themselves with confidence and build essential skills for success.
Through an evidence-based program, designed to help children strengthen their language, literacy, and communication skills, we support children with language disorders or those who struggle academically with storytelling and comprehension.
Wondering Where to Start?

Free Inquiry call
Let’s connect!
We’d love to learn more about your child and share how Chatter & Grow can support their growth. This free inquiry call is a chance for you to ask questions, explore your options, and see if we're the right fit for your family—no pressure, just a helpful conversation.

No-cost discovery session
At Chatter & Grow, your child’s comfort and progress are our top priorities.
We take great care in selecting the right approach for each child—including the best evaluation methods, service setting, and session frequency. That’s why we offer a free discovery session before any formal evaluation. This gives us a chance to meet your child, understand their needs, and help you feel confident about moving forward—without any upfront financial or scheduling commitment.

Evaluation & Treatment Plan
Getting to Know Your Child
Once we decide on the best type of evaluation, we'll spend one or more sessions really getting to know your child—their strengths, needs, and how they learn best. It all begins with building trust and connection, so your child feels safe and comfortable. From there, we may use a mix of play-based activities, informal observations, and standardized tools, along with a thoughtful conversation with you, to create a clear picture of where to begin and how to set meaningful goals. If your child has had a recent evaluation through school or another provider, we’re happy to review those results as part of the process.
FAQs: Let us Tell You More....
At Chatter & Grow, we specialize in evidence-based approaches tailored to preschool and school-aged children—including homeschoolers! We work with children who may benefit from extra support in the following areas:
- Children with multiple speech sound errors that make it hard for others to understand them
- Gestalt Language Processors, including those who are Autistic
- Children with language delays or difficulties that may affect learning and academic success
Our goal is to meet each child where they are and help them grow with confidence.
At Chatter & Grow, you have a few options to ensure therapy sessions are both convenient and appropriate for your child’s specific needs. Options include in-home, teletherapy (online), or community spaces, and can be discussed during an initial call.
After helping clients to make progress during the 7+ years we’ve worked with children online (via teletherapy), we can say with confidence - yes! Therapy exclusively done online isn’t always best for every child but for many just as much progress can be made online as can be made in person. And for those who will do best face-to-face, an online option still provides families with the flexibility they need for when life gets busy.
Chatter & Grow is a private pay clinic and is out of network with insurance companies. Although we do not bill insurance directly, we can provide you with a superbill if you wish to pursue out-of-network reimbursement. We also accept payment from HSA/FSA debit cards. In either case, we leave it to families to be informed about what their insurance policy will reimburse and the process for doing so.
Yes, not a problem. It is common to receive a combination of private therapy and school-based (or early intervention) services. We also work with children who did not qualify for those services. Our background providing speech therapy in the schools lends insight and expertise to questions you have about the “world” of school-based services.
Nice to Meet You!
Stephanie Nyland, M.S., CCC-SLP

Hi, I’m Stephanie—a certified Speech Language Pathologist dedicated to working hand-in-hand with families to support children’s overall development. After earning my degree in Preschool Education and working with young learners, I realized that my favorite aspect was supporting children with speech and language delays. This led me back to school, where I completed my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Washington, home to one of the country’s most respected programs.
With 15+ years of experience spanning preschool through high school, I’m dedicated to empowering families and tailoring therapy to each child’s unique abilities. Using evidence-based, neurodiversity-affirming methods, I strive to help children make meaningful progress while celebrating who they are.
When I’m not in the therapy room, I’m a happy mom of three school-aged kids and love traveling with them and my husband. I’m always balancing work and home life and enjoy my role as what I like to call the “home manager.” Originally from the Pacific Northwest, I now call Alabama home and enjoy bringing a bit of that PNW spirit to everything I do.
